GrowHow UK announces a further 11.5m investment at Ince

GrowHow UK will invest £11.5m in upgrading the ammonia plant on its Ince, Cheshire site to deliver improved energy efficiency and increased reliability of operation.

A new superheated steam main, costing£1.8m will be installed in 2009, replacing a 38 year old system. While the GrowHow UK board has approved £9.7m investment for a new converter to be designed and installed in the ammonia plant over the next two years.

"This new investment is in addition to the £15m approved last year to improve the Nitram production facilities at our Billingham site," said GrowHow UK Commercial Director David Stacey. "We operate the only two manufacturing sites in the UK and accept we need to ensure our plant is reliable to meet our commitments to supply the UK market. At the same time we need to ensure facilities are up-to-date in terms of energy efficiency and environmental controls."

The Ince site has the capacity to produce 1,000 tonnes of ammonia each day to supply both its fertiliser manufacturing operation as well as other industrial customers.
