About Ince Site

Ince manufacturing site is located near Chester, Cheshire and was established in 1965, has approximately 400 employees and occupies 55 hectares. The Ince plant produces 1 million tonnes of fertiliser per annum and supplies the key market sectors for grass and arable farming.  The site manufactures nitrogenous fertiliser based on ammonium nitrate and is the largest UK producer of True Granular Compound fertilisers.  The True Granular Compound fertilisers vary in their proportions of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium with the major proportion containing sulphur to meet with ever increasing market demand.  These fertilisers provide essential key nutrients to enable excellent crop growth.

The manufacture of fertiliser at Ince involves five separate stages:

  1. Ammonia is formed from natural gas, air and steam
  2. Nitric acid is produced from ammonia, air and purified water
  3. The reaction between ammonia and nitric acid results in ammonium nitrate
  4. Ammonium nitrate solution is prilled to form the straight ammonium nitrate product
  5. Granulated compound NPKS fertilisers are manufactured by combining ammonium nitrate, ammonium phosphate and potash, sulphur is added in the form of ammonium sulphate

Product quality is guaranteed using an automated on line analyser as well as backed up by other checks which are carried out in the laboratory.
