GrowHow UK Appoints Grassland Specialist

GrowHow UK has strengthened its technical line-up with the appointment of Elaine Jewkes in a new role as Grassland Specialist. Elaine joins the GrowHow Advice team from North Wyke Research (formerly part of the Institute of Grassland Research - IGER) where she spent 13 years working in applied research, specialising in soil and nutrient interactions. She took up her new appointment on July 1st.

Elaine has a Masters degree by research, is also a geography graduate and has always had an interest in the land. Throughout her research career she worked closely with grass farmers, primarily in the dairy sector. In her new role she will continue to focus on improving the efficiency of nutrient use and minimising nutrient losses.

"Current fertiliser prices are focusing farmers' minds on efficiency," says Elaine. "I'm looking forward to working at the sharp end and to hopefully making a difference to the way fertilisers are used on farm."

Advice & Services Manager Clive Deeley adds, "The GrowHow Advice team, together with our Distributor customers' Fieldsmen, are focused on helping farmers use all their fertiliser inputs as efficiently and effectively as possible. Elaine brings a wealth of competence, knowledge and experience to the team to help farmers optimise nutrient applications and protect the environment."

When she is not busy sorting out grassland farmers' nutrient problems Elaine is a keen cyclist and a black belt in the defensive martial art of Aikido. She also has an interest in music, describing herself as a semi-retired bass player and jazz fan.
